This project is a moment of mourning and wonder of a G’Angel, a guardian of the those fallen to the streets. I found myself drawn to an underpass as I was driving late one night. I pulled over and began to stare at the scene and its ominous feel and a flood of questions came over me. ‘Does the hood have guardian angels?’ ‘If they exist, do they look like the ones they protect?’ ‘What must they feel?’ From these questions, I envisioned what I believe those that watch over those who watch the streets look like. I set out to capture of moment of mourning and wonder. The purpose of these images is not to give an answer, but create a feelings and invite thought to those whose lives are often seen as “justifiably doomed.” In editing these images, I wanted to bring to out the ominous feel of the environment while maintaining this idea of being caught to between two planes of existences.
